Plant Taxonomy and Floristics
Plant phylogenetics, ecology, and evolutionary biology work hand-in-hand with traditional taxonomy and floristics. Taxonomic and floristic work in my lab focuses on species of conservation or particular ecological interest and on developing plant identification tools for the ecologist, restorationist, and naturalist. Recent projects include a field guide to the genus Carex in Wisconsin, evaluation of taxonomic boundaries in the Great Lakes endemic oak Quercus ellipsoidalis, collaborative development of an online field guide to the flora of the Chicago region through www.vPlants.org, collaboration in the creation of a Rapid Field Guide to Chicago region Carex and an Online Database to common Wisconsin Carex species.
